Shaking the packages under the tree and trying to peek and see what was in them with my siblings. There was 5 of us, one would always act as the look-out.

My favorite Christmas memory is finding my Christmas presents underneath my mother’s bed before Christmas. This actually happened twice. Once I found them in her closet. I didn’t tell her until years later.

My favorite Christmas memory is my family’s Christmas Eve tradition! It was our prelude to Christmas Day. We would choose our own dinner, watch Christmas movies and have hot chocolate and then we would do stocking stuffers where my parents would tell us to look in a specific place and we would a find a small gifts. I will always cherish those memories and look forward to doing the same with my future family.

My favorite Christmas memory was the year my son turned five-years-old and someone at school told him there was no Santa. He came home in tears and it broke my heart to see his innocence ruined by a thoughtless comment.
I told a friend at work what had happened, and we came up with the idea of having her husband’s friend call my son one night and say he was Santa. I gave her a copy of my son’s letter to Santa and a few nights later the phone rang. I answered it and told my son that it was someone for him. He took the phone and got the most joyous expression on his face.
The friend told him that it was Santa, that he understood Mentarrio didn’t believe Santa existed anymore. They had a conversation where my son was told the things he had put in his letter to Santa. Then the friend told my son to always believe in magic and the joy of Christmas. He also reminded him that yes, Christmas was about Santa and toys, but the reason gifts were given was because of the first Christmas when gifts were given to the Christ child. He reminded my son to always remember that Jesus is the reason for the season and to keep him in his heart all year long…not just at Christmas time.
After that phone call, there was no one who could convince my son that Santa didn’t exist. Plus, Mentarrio would also tell people the real meaning of Christmas and the story of the Christ child. Mentarrio is now 25-years-old and he became a father five years ago. A few nights ago, he reminded me of that phone call all those years ago and how much it had meant to him. He hopes that the first time his own son hears there is no Santa, a phone call will be made to remind him of the true meaning of Christmas.

My favorite memory of Christmas was when I was about 7 yrs old and it was a big family get together. We all spent the night at my grandmother’s house and my cousins’ got new trikes while I got a new big wheel. Having my mom and 4 of my aunts and my grandmother all under the same roof and waking up together was the best Christmas to me that we have not been able to duplicate.

My Christmas memory is this year actually. We started the Elf on the Shelf tradition this year and my son is in love! He is so excited to get up and see the elf each and every day. He named his Elf Jazzy and he also has the Deer and named him Frisbee.
When he is away at his dad’s house, I have to send a pic of where the Elf has moved to each and every morning.
He knows the story by heart and makes sure to tell everyone who will listen. It’s such a great tradition and he loves each and every minute!

One of my many favorite Christmas memories was the year my daddy bought me a keyboard. My sister and I got up really early and found the keyboard. Daddy got up shortly after and the three of us played, danced and song songs for hours. Thus waking up the entire household. We played on that keyboard all day long. Best Christmas gift ever.

My favorite memory is when I was 5 and I woke up too early and there weren’t any presents under the tree. I thought Santa wasn’t coming to our house. I laid on the couch and cried myself to sleep. When I awake again, I was surrounded by Christ as presents! I was so excited and couldn’t believe he had brought the presents and I slept through it.

My greatest memory was when I received the last Christmas present from my grand Mother before she passed away… She was in the hospital, I didn’t want to do Christmas without her but she told my mom to bring me her gift. It was a Red three quarter length London Fog Coat. It had big pockets in the front and a hood it was the best coat ever and I kept it until it literally fell apart.

My favorite Christmas memory is Christmas 2004, which was the last time my mother was alive for the holiday season (she died the following August). We didn’t know that would be her last Christmas, but if we had, I doubt we would have done anything differently.

Mom LOVED the holidays; almost every year she agreed to host the family gathering for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, and to do most if not all of the cooking. Every year she grumbled about it, but she was in her glory. She enjoyed cooking for a large group; it showed in the intricate preparation of the various dishes and in her face when people could barely stop eating long enough to tell her how good everything was.

That last Christmas we didn’t exchange lavish gifts; I honestly don’t remember what I got for her. What I remember is Christmas music playing (she particularly loved the Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas album) and those few moments when she sat down and relaxed with us before returning to the kitchen to finish the cooking she started the night before. I remember her in the kitchen sitting in front of the stove on the seat of her walker rustling pots and pans; her hands moved so fast she looked like she had more than two :-). She would call either me or my sister to get her something she couldn’t lift or reach, but for the most part, she handled her business despite not being 100% well. She wanted it no other way, and I’m glad she had one final chance to do what she loved the most; provide a comfortable and beautiful Christmas environment for me, my dad and my sister, and for the rest of the family when they came by later in the day.

My favorite memory of Christmas is having dinner with family and friends around the kitchen table at my Grandma Coveys house.
After dinner we exchanged gifts with each family member, as the years went on things changed a lot. I wish that this would be possible again for one more year. I know that my Dad and my grandparents are in my heart and they are looking down from Heaven!!!
