The Blacksmith’s Bride<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m still writing The Blacksmith’s Bride<\/a> – a historical novel set a few years after the Civil War. The Blacksmith’s Bride is the third book in the Romance Bride Series<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m still researching while I write my novel. My main character, Benjamin, is of mixed race. The term used during those times, for someone of his racial identity, was quadroon (1\/4 Black or having one Black grandparent). Did you know that the African American communities had a social “caste” system where those who had lighter skin had a higher social status than those with darker complexions? At times, those with lighter skin may have better economic and social opportunities. However, these individuals were still considered Black under the law and by white society, for the most part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned last week, I’m having fun learning new things as I write The Blacksmith’s Bride<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
