MJ

I watched the Michael Jackson Memorial today. It was very tastefully done. Since he died, my mind has been inundated with MJ memories.

I remember being around five and seeing the Jackson Five on television. I recall watching the J5 cartoon every Saturday morning in the early seventies.

…seeing MJ and his brothers singing Dancin’ Machine and his doing the Robot
…seeing J5 doing commercials for Alpha Bits cereal
…listening to J5, and the Jacksons albums and 45s on the record player
…the impact that Thriller had in the music world when I was in high school. I listened to that cassette tape so much that I about wore it out

When I got into my twenties, out of college, I purchased MJ CD’s since records were going out of style.

I could go on and on with my memories. I’ve been listening to MJ music in some form practically my entire life.

Just can’t believe he’s dead. I guess this is the first time a star has died that’s affected me so much.

Rest In Peace, Michael.

I’ll be back to blogging about regular topics tomorrow.

    Cecilia,

thanks for extending this link. I feel so out of the loop. As a child, I was not allowed to listen to secular music and then when Michael was at his pinnacle, I was busy raising babies. So I missed the childhood experience. But, I recognize the haunted look in his eyes, from one survivor to another. I pray he found what he spent his lifetime looking for.

    Jan,

You couldn’t listen to secular music? Bummer!

I was raised JW – (Jehovah’s Witness). My dad wasn’t JW, but my mom was. Too much typing to tell about that experience, but I was allowed to listen to secular music, plus my dad used to play gigs with a band sometimes.

Anyway, I had a huge crush on MJ when I was around 11 or 12, thought we’d be getting married. Seriously! But in my mind, it was “okay” since at the time, he was a JW. It’s frowned upon – ALMOST forbidden for a JW to date and marry a non-JW. Since MJ was a JW, then everything would turn out just fine in my young mind!

I am so sick of hearing about MJ, he was just a man, not a God and not a nice man at that. Why does eveyone have to make such a big deal when a clebrity passed away, if they are not a Christian then we know where they will go, but only God and the person knows if he or she is a Christian. Why this big deal over a drug addict, child molester, and who know what else. Don’t worship a person. The Bible says “THOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GOD’S BEFORE ME” when someone does as I have seen on TV seems to me they are worshiping Michael Jackson. this is my thoughts and no image on the author.

Hi Edna. You’re correct…we shouldn’t worship people. I’m sure there are those out there who worship MJ, and it’s wrong for them to do that.

I’ve enjoyed his music since I can remember…literally. I’m 42, almost 43…he was 50. So my earliest memories are of watching MJ and his brothers on TV and watching their cartoon – listening to their records.

I haven’t always agreed with MJ’s lifestyle. As for the molestation? Well, only God and MJ and the children know what happened. I know he was acquitted of the charges. I DON’T agree with his decision about sleeping with children in his bed. Mentally, he wasn’t all there.

He’s just been in the spotlight my entire life and I’ve always enjoyed his music.

Kind of reminds me of how people reacted when Elvis died. Remember that? I was around ten or eleven when Elvis died and I wondered why everybody was making a big deal about it. I wasn’t an Elvis fan, but I thought it went overboard when folks started saying he was still alive! Gimme a break!
