Moments With Angels By Robert Strand

I found this book lying around my messy house. I’m off from work next week and I have a little more time to read. I believe somebody gave this to me as a gift awhile ago. I enjoy reading “true” stories about angels. These short vignettes were very entertaining, however, as I read them, I wondered if all of the stories were really “true” or if they were merely urban legends? Now, don’t start throwing stones at me because I’m just saying how I feel! I do believe in angels, I know that we’re not supposed to worship them, we’re only supposed to worship the Lord Jesus. But, I did wonder about the stories. I noticed that some of the stories did have references with a first and last name. One story even referenced a Christian radio station. I emailed this Christian radio station to see if this story was really true, or, if it was just a legend. I didn’t see the story listed on the radio station’s website, and I’m not sure if they’ll respond.

I recommend this book if you want a good, quick, entertaining, thought-provoking read about the power of God’s messengers. I briefly blogged about angels here, back in 2008.

Have you ever had an encounter with an angel? If so, what happened? What made you believe that this being was an angel?

Moments with Angels: Spectacular Encounters with Heavenly Messengers
==
Suddenly there are angels everywhere or so we think. But haven’t they been with mankind a long time? These creatures who transcend time bring groceries to a snowbound family and leave no footprints. In Moments with Angels, read about these messengers of God intervening for a; family’s safety, and an apocalyptic warning from a mysterious hitchhiker. Thirty such stories paint an awesome picture of these celestial beings.

Angels fascinate us and stimulate conversadons. They watch us continually and do the bidding of their Creator in heaven. And we are the benefactors.

Written in Robert Strand’s unique storytelling style, Moments with Angels contains 30 inspiring true stories along with relevant Scripture verse. Complete with photos, the two-color interiors compliment the elegant covers to make each a great gift idea for any memorable moment.

There’s a novel by Frank Perretti that I keep meaning to read called “This Present Darkness.” It’s a novel about spiritual warfare, and the main characters are angels and demons and the plot is about how they affect us. I’ve been told by several people this is a great book, and I’m mentioning it since it’s somewhat related to your blog’s topic today.

As for whether I’ve ever felt I encountered an angel, I believe that they are active all around us every day, but we almost never detect what they might be doing in helping to carry out God’s plan for us.

There is only one time in my life where I strong believed/was aware an angel may have been involved, but it wasn’t a physical encounter — just something unseen in the room that was protecting me.

I was about to step off the curb to cross a road early one morning and I was yanked back by the collar of my sweater. I landed on my fanny on the sidewalk, just as a bus that I swear I never saw came roaring by. I would have been hit for sure if not for the person who pulled me back. I immediately turned around to see who it was that saved my life and there was absolutely no-one anywhere … and I turned within seconds. I have absolutely no doubt that it was an angel and for any doubters out there, I actually had bruises on my neck from where the sweater pulled on my throat, so I didn’t imagine this encounter. It is the only time I’ve had a physical encounter, but I’m pretty sure they protect us in ways we are unaware of all the time.

Yes, I have had encounters with angels, and I thank God that He puts
them around us. Will keep them busy as I travel back home from western
    Virginia tomorrow! Nice post! Blessings!

Hmm…I know I have because I’ve said, “The angels must have been helping/watching me!” but I honestly can’t remember a specific time. I believe what the Bible says about “entertaining angels unaware”…I think we can be in the presence of an angel and not know it, whether we’re helping them or they are helping us. (Now, I say “we’re helping them”…I mean if we’re given an opportunity to help someone, I sometimes wonder if that person might be an angel and it is giving us an opportunity to serve and that encounter might somehow bless our lives.)

I do believe that there are angels everywhere…both God’s angels and Satan’s angels. An angel is simply a messenger…someone sent to do a job/mission. So I truly believe that there are Satan’s angels out there trying to trip us up or tempt us to do things we shouldn’t do.

One thing I believe in, and I’ve gotten some really weird looks about this thought!, is that I believe children/babies can see angels more than we can. I think they see angels that are just “hovering” in a room…not necessarily the ones that we come in contact with in human form. My reasoning for this is b/c when Brent (my oldest) was a baby, he would sleep for HOURS each night…12-14. But he was always wake up so happy and just lay and play in his bed for another hour. There were NUMEROUS occasions that, while he was laying there playing, I would hear him jabbering and “talking” and then GIGGLING. He was the only one in the room…no other children, no TV. I firmly believe that there were angels in his room “playing” with him. Keeping him company. My other son did some of the same, but not as much. My daughter would often look up to the corner of a room and just jabber and talk or just stare for several minutes. There would be nothing there (that we could see) for her to be looking at or talking to. But it was obvious that she was seeing something and talking to something. I think it was angels.

Now, I don’t believe necessarily in “guardian angels”…angels sent to protect us or our children from evil or bad things. But I do think we interact with angels on a more personal level than many of us realize.

Maybe I’m just “out there” compared to other people… 🙂

Hi, Cecelia — To answer your question, I have definitely felt presences around me on rare occasions. I can’t say they were angels, but also do not have a better explanation.

@Amanda, This isn’t the first time I’ve heard this – about babies being able to see angels. My dad has mentioned something similiar to me. I guess it’ll just be something that we’ll have to always wonder about since babies can’t speak to let us know what they are saying.
@ Anthony, Thanks again for the Facebook friendship invite and I’m happy that you visted my Christian Fiction Blog! 🙂 Yes, that presence you felt was probably angels or the Lord’s Holy Spirit.

    Hi Robert,

My Husband and I were inspired and helped by your writing Seminar a few years ago. We both are writing much more and I am publishing a Mini-book with Excel chock full of Paradoxes from God’s Word. I used one of yours from the Mini-book for Moms somebody gave me years ago. It’s “If you are born once, you die twice. If you are born twice, you die once.” (John 3:5-7). I thought I should get official permission from you to put this in my book. Thanks if you get back to me on this.

Also, should I use my ponderous married name, Ellen Dobbelmann, for the Cover, or my maiden hame, Ellen Howard?? (married name is long & doesn’t ring) maybe. My Husband may have a book going also. Should he put Darrell Dobbelmann on Cover or D.L. Dobbelmann??

Thanks for your attention to this matter?

    Hey, Ellen!

This blog post was written my me, Cecelia Dowdy, not Robert Strand! I’m merely blogging about his book because I enjoyed it so much. I review Christian books (mostly fiction) on this blog. You’ll need to find Robert to and contact him about your question since I do not have authority to give permission to quote from his works.

BTW, I love talking about the Bible! If you have the time, read and comment on my insightful Sunday Brunch Biblical Blog Posts:

Very amazing stories. I have a few. We have angels. All of us. We can call on them. Perhaps sometimes we forget. Call on patience angels when frusterated. Or any topic. Good to know we all have our own. I think my angels never wear out. If they did i would have to borrow from you friends. Angels were created by god for our faith. And they never lived on this earth.fyi. faith represents all.
