The Daughter of Shiloh by Terri J. Haynes

The Daughter of Shiloh by Terri J. Haynes

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a good historical fiction interwoven with elements of mystery.

Lealia and Milton attend Tuskegee Institute. Both of them were childhood friends – but they barely remember playing with one another as youngsters. When they travel with Booker T Washington and George Washington Carver to a church convention at Shiloh church – their lives change – due to a traumatic event.

The traumatic occurrence propels both Lealia and Milton to probe, seeking answers to a mystery. The entire town must heal both physically and emotionally.

Milton is angry – Shiloh Church wants to assist Lealia with a scholarship to Howard University – yet Shiloh refuses to help him – and he really needs assistance. He feels wrongly judged by the congregation due to a troubled past for which he had no control.

This was an exciting inciteful read which shows how judgmental attitudes in the church can cause undue harm to others.
